I feel like every week I look forward to two shows, OTH and Veronica Mars, and every week I come out of them saying wtf are the writers doing to these characters? It's not right. And the problems that I have are not with the shows themselves, because, to me, they are meant to entertain and in my head (bear with me if this doesn't make any sense) whatever happens on the show is what happens. Okay, I don't even think that made any sense to me. For example, a lot of people have been upset at the L/V break-up scene from There's Got to Be a Morning After Pill, saying that how could Logan know how much Veronica hated Madison, she never told him, et cetera...But, I tend to accept at face value (whether it's wrong or right) that Veronica said that he knew so I believe that he knew. Did the writers leave wiggle room on that one? Not in my opinion. Generally, what the main character of a show tells you, you accept. Why is it not so here? Just because we didn't see it happen on screen? Because we don't see a lot happen on screen and we accept it. I understand why people think that she never told him, it's just I think she did. So much of their relationship from the beginning has happened off screen. I don't think now is any different.
The main point of this post was to say that, yes I do think the writers (or creators) are screwing things up royally (moreso with OTH). And I find it funny that in my two major fandoms everyone is up in arms with the repective creators. I am as well. I think Mark Schwahn is an asshat. I do. I think from the beginning he has written certain storylines only for shock value and not thought ahead as to how to carry things out from there. It happens in every finale. The first being Nathan and Haley's marriage. I think that was the biggest wtf moment of my life. But from there he has only managed to screw with history and piss off his biggest fanbase repeatedly and last week really took the cake. Not only did he piss off N/H fans, but Brooke fans as well. So he managed to totally rewrite history, AND he completely nullified Brooke's late season 1 anger towards Peyton. I have to say I was on Brooke's side at that point, but now she's a hypocrite and that I can't stand. What the hell Schwahn? What are you thinking in that crazy head of yours?
And everyone's all up in arms with Rob Thomas. I have to admit that I did just join the VM fandom recently, but I was a fan of RT's immediately. The first season was gold, as close to perfect as I could ever wish for a television show. Since I started joining VM communities on LJ I've seen the complaints about RT and I don't know whether or not I agree. While I am among the camp that thinks this is still a good show and would like to see a fourth season I am upset about certain things that have been going on (Lamb! =( ) and I'm on the fence about RT. I see the good, I see the bad. I'm very torn.
It's hard to be in these two fandoms right now, but I'm not going anywhere. At some point I have to step back and say these are just TV shows, meant to entertain and sometimes I take them too seriously (but hey, media was my major, that's what I spent four years learning how to do). I would still like to see a fourth season for VM. I'm still very much comitted to these characters and storylines and I just won't be satisfied is it ends this season. As for OTH, I hope that they write a good finale for this season and be done with it. I'm tired of Schwahn's ploys for viewership. I'm tired of the rewriting of history. Just let it go.
Also, I haven't really been commenting on VM episodes as of late because I've been having such contradicting feelings on the subject, so I want to catch up a little. On the break-up: I hate to use the cliche that everyone is using, but "THEY WERE ON A BREAK!" Logan assumed that when he broke up with her in Spit and Eggs that was it. There was no more Logan and Veronica. So he made a bad decision. Does it suck? Yes. Do I think it was kind of on purpose? Maybe a little. There had to be something in his subconscious going, "Hmm, I think Veronica might hate this." But I don't think he fully did it to hurt her. It was a bad choice. It happens, especially when you're in college. Veronica's "Imagine what you could've done if you tried" killed me, but that's so true to her character. A comment that most people would take at face value ("I wasn't trying to hurt you") she took that extra mile. She's so used to being hurt and betrayed that that is how she thinks. I do think that they will get back together by the end of the season, if only because that is how they've set it up in the previous seasons.
arabian posted a great post about the L/V relationship. I'm just worried that there may not be enough time left. I do truely believe that they are epic. From the wway they've been written, they will always come back to each other. I'm not going to comment on last night's episode until I watch it again because so much went on.
I know this post was kind of all over place so thanks for bearing with me.
